Tasmanian Premier Lara Giddings said that the Government’s plans for energy reform represented an opportunity to reshape the industry, through a restructure of Tasmania’s electricity businesses and market.

After an 18 month review, an expert panel concluded in the blueprint that the Government will need to limit the affect of power price rises expected in July 2012.

Hydro Tasmania Chief Executive Officer Roy Adair said “Hydro Tasmania acknowledges there will be changes to the business as a result of today’s announcement, and looks forward to working with the Government on implementing its plan.”

Hydro Tasmania’s renewable energy assets include the 168 MW Musselroe wind farm in north-east Tasmania, for which construction has commenced, as well as a number of smaller wind and hydro power projects.
