During his address to delegates at the 16th United Nations Climate Change Conference,Greg Combet, Minister for Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, spoke of the challenges the Government has faced from the Opposition in its attempts establish a carbon price, reiterating that the Government remains committed to taking this action.
Minister Combet has welcomed the outcomes of the conference – held in December in Cancun, Mexico – that include among other things:
A non-binding obligation for the major emitters to report on their efforts to reduce carbon pollution
The establishment of a Green Climate Fund to help developing countries deal with climate change.
